GREAT question, and brava for asking it! The terms accreditation and certification are sometimes used interchangeably; however, they are not synonymous. Certification is used for verifying that people have adequate credentials to practice certain disciplines, as well as for verifying they meet certain requirements. Certification is a proof an individual has successfully completed a course of study and achieved a certain level of proficiency; the person is competent and skilled in that particular skill. In a non-regulated industry, CSP International™ chose to hold itself and its students accountable to a higher standard. We believe it is important that customers know a third party has examined and approved of the skills, knowledge, and abilities of a stager. Stagers work in the real estate industry, which is regulated; CSP International wanted to give students a noticeable mark that real estate professionals can rely on as a symbol of excellence in educational achievement – both in theory and in practice.

Accreditation is a stamp of approval by a third party given to an institution recognizing their procedures and systems. Accreditation implies that a company or organization adheres to certain standards. These standards are set by a third party whose approval is a review of the quality or efficiency of the organization. Accreditatioin is performed by an agency that has been accepted as standard and provides its stamp of approval. CSP International had its CSP training program accredited through the staging industry’s trade association RESA (Real Estate Staging Association). I hope this helps you, Dorothy.
