Give the Gift of Color!

We Make Color Easy

A color consultation for the new home can be a great client gift at the close of escrow. I have been working on a Color Consultation this week with a new homeowner client. We are using the Dewey Color System to create a personalized room by room color palette throughout the house.

In a couple of the rooms we took our inspiration from an existing piece. In others, we started from scratch with no preconceived notions. The Dewey Color System is designed to ensure the finished product speaks to the individual client, ensuring that each room in their home brings them the feeling they are looking for in each room. It does this by starting with the patented Dewey Color System Test and using the patented Dewey Color Coordinator. The finished product is a home that is uniquely designed for the particular client with no fear of color mismatches.

Color choices are one of the first reasons new clients hire designers. They are intimidated by the overwhelming breadth of choices. They don’t want to make a color mistake, especially on the walls. Even though paint is one of the easiest and most affordable changes to make, the sheer massiveness of walls in comparison to the smaller color choices (a chair, linens, or accessories) creates fear in the hearts of the average consumer. That is why, for many, the first time they reach for the phone to call a designer, it is for a color consultation.

Many designers, including home stagers, have expanded their business to include color consults for these homeowners. As stagers, we know just what colors and color combos will sell a house, we know how to buy for our inventory and what colors to recommend to freshen and enhance the interior and exterior of the homes we stage. We also know what works for us, makes us happy in our own environment. But with the way color effects different people so differently, how do we ensure that our recommendations will create an environment that really takes into account the client and their color sensibilities?
The people at We Make Color Easy have developed a certification program based on the Dewey Color System that does just that. The Dewey Color System, the world’s first scientifically validated color test, has been compared favorably in scientific journals to the Strong Interest Inventory and other psychological testing instruments. We Make Color Easy has taken the principles of the Dewey System and, with the assistance of experienced design professionals from across North America, created a training course for designers that makes color recommendations easy. Now design professionals have a system and tools which allow us to conduct in-home consultations that recommend exact paint, fabric and accessory colors room-by-room without the fear of a color mismatch, using the patented Dewey Color Coordinator. Check our website for upcoming classes throughout North America, the next Northern California class is June 8th and 9th in Oakland, CA.

Why Hire a Home Stager? Part 10

This Walnut Creek property
already had fabulous built-ins, beautiful hardwood floors, a Staging
SafeTM
color palette on the walls and nice dining room furniture.

Before Dining Room 10

We showcased the property by
adding a rug and accessories to anchor the table and chairs and bring
the color scheme together.

Simply angling the existing dining set, de-cluttering, adding art and
accessories, and upgrading the dated light fixture were all that was
needed to change this Walnut Creek dining room from drab to fab!
Dining Room 9 Before

To draw buyers’ attention to
the spectacular backyard (more on this
in the Curb Appeal section) we added a relaxing chaise lounge seating

Why Hire a Home Stager? Part 8

This formal dining room in the
Blackhawk section of Danville had not ever really been fully furnished
by the owners.

Dining Room before - covered folding table and chairs...

We brought in a beautiful
dining set to support the asking price of this fabulous home in one of
the most sought after locations in the San Francisco Bay
Area.  Furniture, art and accessory placement, along with
removal of the outdoor tent draws buyers’ eyes outdoors to the fabulous
view and the possibility for gracious indoor and outdoor living in this
magnificent property.

Why Hire a Home Stager? Part 7

This adorable small cottager in
Oakland, CA needed a complete facelift and got
it..  drbefore

The homeowner gave
it a complete face lift as part of the staging process, with
luxurious suede paint effect and beautiful hardwood floors.

To showcase this beautiful
setting and create that buyer excitement we added simple but elegant
furnishings, using a round glass table to keep the feeling of
spaciousness, and large, serene art to add to that impact, plus a
beautiful mirror to reflect and duplicate the effect.

Why Hire a Home Stager? Part 6

Before Staging Dining Room 2

This open concept Montclair
home in the hills area of Oakland, CA needed de-cluttering of course.

But more than that we needed
to, and did, create a dramatic, elegant dining area that buyers in this
upscale community are looking for – even in smaller properties. The
addition of a luscious live palm, furnishings that support the sale
price of the home and elegant accessories did the trick.

Why Hire a Home Stager? Part 5

dining room before 1

This Lafayette,
CA dining room
area was cut off by heavy living room furniture disrupting the flow.

By changing the living room
furniture to two seating areas with the larger furniture enhancing the
fireplace (the new living room area that was featured in Home Staging
for Dummies will be featured in Part 6 of this series) we were able to
open up this dining area and give it the attention and contemporary
elegance buyers are seeking.

Do You Know someone Who Should Be a Home Stager?

CSP Training - the best in the world!

  • Have you worked with a client whose home looked like a professional stager had already been hired?
  • Do you work with an agent that has more passion for assisting the client with the preparation to sell then they do for actually closing the sale?
  • Do you have an assistant who could be trained to handle this aspect of working with clients, who you would like have trained professionally?

If your answer to any of these questions is “yes”, then do them a favor and let them know about the upcoming Certified Staging Professional courses being offered in March.

Training and affiliation with North America’s fastest growing network of home staging professionals provides opportunity to people who want to start a business with minimum capital investment. The CSP Program is the most advanced program in the staging industry! The differences make us better! Finally a staging designation and training, that truly are unique, packed with valuable, measurable content, practical knowledge, best practices, advanced tools and techniques to set you apart. The first and only staging training company to measure and test retention, and staging abilities of their delegates (important because this is an unregulated industry and we intend to be counted!) Trainees must achieve a minimum 75% pass to be placed in the staging directory and to earn their certification.

Course Description: The CSP workshop is a comprehensive program taught through hands-on interaction, group exercises, role-plays and in-depth practical application of work samples, geared to prepare its participants to enter the Staging industry with confidence and experience necessary to succeed.  You will begin your staging portfolio with pictures from our class
project.

Why Hire a Home Stager? Child’s Room IV

In the same Danville house as in our last blog in the series we now take a reading room and convert it back to a bedroom.

Blackhawke Boy's Room Before

A professional stager knows the importance of bedrooms in the sale price of a home.  This time we engage young boys and their parents with a fun boy’s room.  We increase that sense of place so important to the Bay Area by adding a little local connection with the Oakland Athletics tee-shirt and cap on the bed – creating that emotional connection buyers need to move to the offer stage…
