This summer marks the one year mark that Hidden Potential Home Staging has been impacting home sales in Southern Alberta. Several vacant and occupied homes, two show homes, countless consultations, (and one baby) later, we have become a measurable asset for the Lethbridge real estate industry.
So what’s changed in a year?
1. Public awareness. Thanks to television, the Realtors who have used our services, and a buyer’s market, sellers are more aware than ever about the benefits of using a home stager to help sell their home.
2. Inventory, inventory, inventory. One of the benefits of this line of work is indulging my weakness for funky accessories. Lamps, art, rugs, pillows, bedding, and other staging essentials make up most of our inventory. Small pieces such as accent chairs, apartment sized couches, and occasional tables now round out our inventory for complimenting existing furniture or for use in vacant homes.
3. Cohen. With 3 wonderful sisters, our surprise made his arrival this spring. His easy-going disposition has made him a superb assistant on many jobs.
What’s on the horizon?
1. More stagers. We have started to see more stagers entering the business and are eager to include them in HPHS. Be sure to ask for referrals and look for the CSP designation, experience, a sense of style, and people skills.
2. Better furniture rentals. Last year when I inquired about furniture rentals, they looked at me like I was crazy and offered me the old sage microsuede couch that just came back from who knows where. (Somewhere cattle are allowed to lounge in the living room judging by the smell). Today, our associates are recognizing the benefits of home staging rentals and are very accommodating, even to the point of ordering new items as we require them. Thank you!
3. Advance booking. As demand for our services increases, you may be asked to wait several days, even up to a week for appointments. We recognize that the nature of this business is that everyone “wants it done yesterday” and will always do our best to fit you in ASAP. If you are anticipating a move, call us first to organize a smooth, low-stress transition into selling.
4. More referrals. Realtors, how great is it when the client approaches you ready to go? De-cluttering, yard work and pictures are done; all you have to do is pound in the sign. As sellers begin to look first to stagers for assistance in preparing their homes, the Realtors we know and love can expect more qualified referrals.
